Single Not Ready To Mingle
What is the point of life? Personally, I think it's to love. But often we forget that love isn't just of the romantic kind.
For some reason, being single is considered a kind of social flaw. It's almost like if you're not with someone, then there must be something wrong with you. And all the days and events aimed at couples, like Valentine's Day, only add to those feelings of loneliness and inadequacy. The worst single lady moment for me is when another single soldier falls and becomes engaged, leaving the small group of us singles alone in the trenches forevermore, or at least until divorce.
After 8 months of breakup recovery, I'm finally trying to work out how to do everything by myself again. Although if I'm being honest, I'm actually quite used to it because my last boyf wasn't so crash hot at the whole boyf thing. However the fact that I HAVE to do stuff alone now, whereas before I only PROBABLY had to do stuff alone, well, that fact isn't lost on me. But single doesn't always mean alone. My life is probably more full now than it was before my breakup. And I must admit, I reeeeeaallly do enjoy not having to wax my vadge and not share my peanut butter anymore though. So for the most part, I'm happy being single. And I only ever get the teeniest tiniest twinge of couple envy when I'm watching Rom Coms or buying a piece of fruit that's attached to another fruit like a perfect fruity pair.
So to all my single soldiers withstanding the onslaught of stereotype, judgement and pity bombs from the trenches alongside me, I salute you. And to those of you on the other side; next time you feel the urge to point out a person's singledom like it's an infectious disease, just take a minute to think about all the things you used to be able to do before partners and babies came along and ruined them all for you.
The grass is only greener where you water it. If you choose to be happy and succeed regardless of your marital status, then you will. Stop thinking that being single is a disability, and realise that is just an opportunity for new experiences.
Until next time,
Ruby xx
